COVID-19 restrictions are extended

05 January 2021

covid update
The Minister for Health and Social Services has extended the Orders that restrict gatherings and close non-essential retail. Ministers agreed to review the Orders on 11 January, but as the legal restrictions expire tomorrow (6 January), they have been extended for two weeks to cover the intervening period. They can be amended to reflect any decisions taken by Ministers.

Deputy Richard Renouf said: “When we introduced these measures we anticipated that the restrictions would remain in place at least until Monday 11 January, and said we would review their impact in the first week of January.

“We will be discussing the impact of these measures at a meeting tomorrow, and will announce any changes by the end of this week. The Orders can be amended at any time to reflect the changes”.

Government guidance remains that people should not meet in each other’s homes or gardens but should meet outdoors, where two-metre distancing is easier.
