Minister for Health and Social Services continues commitment to engage with Islanders

06 July 2023

The Minister for Health and Social Services, Deputy Karen Wilson, has vowed to continue her commitment to engage with Islanders who wish to discuss matters relating to Jersey’s health and social service provisions.

Together with her Assistant Ministers, Deputies Rose Binet and Malcolm Ferey, Deputy Wilson has met with over 100 Islanders across the 12 parishes in the past five months.

Conversations between the Ministerial team and Islanders have covered a wide range of topics, including:

  • Healthcare funding and pathways
  • Waiting lists
  • Patient experiences and complaints
  • Primary care and social security
  • Access to healthcare in the community
  • HCS staffing, recruitment and accommodation
  • Medicinal cannabis
  • Public Health
  • New Healthcare Facilities Programme
  • Tertiary care

Deputy Wilson, said: “Hearing directly from Islanders has been incredibly valuable. I have been able to feed the insight we’ve gained with colleagues across Government, and I know that many of the areas of concern will become focuses for the change team within Health and Community Services.

“Although the parish roadshows have now come to an end, my commitment to engaging with Islanders remains. Following the summer recess, I will continue engagement activity through third-sector and arm’s length organisations who care for Islanders in the community. I want to use these opportunities for my team and I to listen to Islanders' feedback about the services they receive, and the interaction they have with Health and Social Service provisions in the Island. I am also more than happy for Islanders to speak to me about their ideas, feedback and concerns. There is no need to wait for a scheduled session to share this; Islanders can reach out to me in the way that suits them best.”
