How we use the information about you

We will use the information you provide in a manner that conforms to the Data Protection (Jersey) Law 2018.

We will endeavour to keep your information accurate and up to date and not keep it for longer than is necessary. In some instances the law sets the length of time information has to be kept. CAMHS records are retained in line with the NHS Records Management Code of Practice 2021.

We may not be able to provide you with a service unless we have enough information.

We will not pass any personal data on to anyone outside of the Government of Jersey, other than those who either process information on our behalf, provide you with health or social care services or because of a legal requirement. Where sharing is appropriate, we will only do so after we have ensured that sufficient steps have been taken by the recipient to protect your personal data.

We will not disclose any information that you provide 'in confidence', to anyone else without your permission, except in the few situations where disclosure is required by law, or where we have good reason to believe that failing to share the information would put someone else at risk. You will be told about this unless there are exceptional reasons not to do so.

When we need to transfer your information outside of Jersey we will only do so if we have a legal basis, or failing that we will seek your consent and only if we are reassured that your information is still secure when transferred.

Transferring information to countries within the European Economic Area (EEA) is seen as relatively safe because these countries have strong data protection laws in place. There is a list of countries outside of the EEA that are also deemed safe. If we need to transfer your information outside of the EEA or to a country which is not on the list of safe countries, we will take extra steps to keep your information safe.

Data sharing

We may need to pass your information to other Government of Jersey (GOJ) departments or organisations to fulfil your request for a service. These departments and organisations are obliged to keep your details securely, and only use your information for the purposes for which it has been provided.

CAMHS routinely disclose information to your General Practitioner in Primary Care and with Health and Community Services in order that they can continue to care for you in the community and in secondary healthcare services. This is in line with your care plan and relevant to your needs and enables a holistic view of your needs among healthcare professionals. Multi-agency and multi-disciplinary meetings will sometimes be held to ensure that there is uniformity in care provision, and assurance in relation to safeguarding.

CAMHS may disclose information to other departments and organisations where it is necessary, either to comply with a legal obligation, or where permitted under other legislation. Examples of this include, but are not limited to:

  • where the information is required to support the provision of tertiary services, and an external organisation's support of your needs
