High-grip Road Surfacing Works

19 October 2006

The approaches to the pedestrian crossing in Queen’s Road opposite Checkers supermarket are to have a special high friction surface applied which helps reduce traffic accidents. The work is scheduled to take place on the nights of Monday 23 and Tuesday 24 October. Also on the night of Tuesday 24 October, a small repair will be made to the road surface at the bottom of Mont Felard Hill.

The work at the Queen’s Road crossing will take place between 7pm and 7am on Monday night and 9pm to 7am on Tuesday night. The process, which is not noisy, involves bonding a high friction road surfacing on to the existing road with a specialist resin. The surface must then be left for six to nine hours for the surface to ‘set’. The work will not require a road closure.

The process is highly weather sensitive and the length of time taken to complete a site can vary greatly depending on the weather conditions. The dates of the work are provisional and timings and dates may have to change if the weather is wet or cold.

The road repair at the bottom of Mont Felard will take place from 7pm until 7am on Tuesday 24 October. There will be no diversion for northbound traffic, however southbound traffic will be diverted via Le Mont Cambrai.

The Transport and Technical Services Department has arranged for the works to take place during the evening and night time to minimise disruption to motorists and commercial traffic. Temporary traffic management will be in place and motorists are advised to take care.
