Positive Response to Announcement of New Flybe Routes

19 March 2008

The Minister and Assistant Minister for Economic Development, Senator Philip Ozouf and Deputy Alan Maclean have welcomed today’s announcement by Flybe of their intention to operate a service to the Island from Paris. The year-round service, which will commence on Monday 28 April, will once again open up a direct link between Jersey and Charles de Gaulle Airport, located just 14 miles northeast of the city.

Senator Ozouf said, “Following Economic Development’s success in developing a number of major new routes, this is a further significant coup for Jersey. Charles de Gaulle International is the city’s leading airport, linked directly to central Paris; it is also Europe’s busiest airport and a major international hub with an extensive network of international destinations. The route’s reinstatement will undoubtedly boost leisure and business travel to the Island as well as open up further opportunities for us. It will also be very useful for islanders wanting to visit central Paris or inter-connect to international destinations”.

As well as announcing the Paris service, Flybe has announced it will offer direct summer services on Saturdays to Newquay and the Isle of Man, two new routes to their existing schedule. Welcoming these announcements, Deputy Maclean said, “Flybe has a long history of serving the Island, working with Jersey Airport to deliver a more extensive network of routes to our key UK and European markets. Today’s announcement will offer Jersey residents and visitors to the Island a greater choice at competitive prices.
