Second Stage of Airport Redevelopment Opens

29 June 2009

The second stage of the redevelopment of the airside Departure Lounge at Jersey Airport is now complete with the opening of the first phase of a new World Duty Free store as well as a new bar.

The impressive new Duty Free store is being built in three phases. It will sell an extensive product range, including perfumes and cosmetics, jewellery, watches, tobacco, liquor and travel products. The first phase covers 2,400 square feet and occupies part of what was formerly the WHSmith shop. As a result of this larger retail space, World Duty Free (WDF) can now offer departing passengers an even greater range of perfumes and cosmetics by leading brands previously not available at Jersey Airport, such as Tom Ford, Versace, Hermes and Guerlain.

A new bar has been located adjacent to the current catering outlet and replaces the former Bar Roc. More contemporary and spacious than its previous offering, it can comfortably seat up to 94 people. Operated by HMS Host, who will also look after the soon to be refurbished restaurant, the bar aims to provide customers with a relaxing environment to sit and enjoy the high end food and drink available. Andrew Guy, Director of the company says, “We are very proud to have opened the new bar in Jersey and look forward to the restaurant opening later in the summer”.

With the second stage of the development now complete, work continues on the development of the outstanding areas, including the remaining two phases of the World Duty Free store, a Jersey Food Hall, creation of three new retail outlets and a comfortable central seating area for departing passengers.

The overall project is due for completion by August 2009
