Outpatient services to resume

20 July 2020

From today (Monday 20 July), outpatient services will resume at Jersey’s General Hospital. Initially, there will be a reduced level of routine outpatient activity due to the COVID-19 safety guidelines in place for patients and staff.

Islanders are asked to attend their appointments, unless they have been informed otherwise.

Medical Director, Patrick Armstrong said: “So that we can resume outpatient services and keep people safe, our teams have worked tirelessly to facilitate and adapt to the COVID-19 restrictions. I ask the public to please continue to wait for correspondence from staff in the Outpatients Department who will advise on the appropriate route of care.

“There is ongoing work to identify how we can deliver outpatient services in different ways to overcome waiting times for appointments caused by the pandemic. I thank Islanders for their understanding whilst we resume our outpatient services and ease our way out of this pandemic.”

With COVID-19 restrictions in place, considerations have been given to:

  • Increasing telephone consultations
  • Reviewing referral, follow up and discharge protocols
  • Maximising the use of technology

Patients will be contacted in order of clinical priority and those of the same priority will be organised in chronological order, with those who have been waiting the longest being seen first.
