Older Persons Living Forum launched

14 October 2022

The Older Persons Living Forum has been launched by the Chief Minister and Social Security Minister at this week’s Closer to Home event.

The event, aimed at over 55s and carers, was held at Age Concern and provided older Islanders with the opportunity to access a number of community and charity sector partners, all in one place.

The Older Persons Living Forum, which will meet every three months, will ensure the older community are included in Government decision-making, enabling them to have their say on matters that affect them and the Island.

Part of the Council of Ministers’ 100 Day Plan, the Forum will comprise of older Islanders and will discuss any issues that members feel are of importance or interest. Their views will be provided directly to Ministers and policy makers, with meeting minutes published on gov.je. The first meeting will be held on 30 November 2022.

The Chief Minister, Deputy Kristina Moore, said: “This important Forum gives older members of our Island community a direct voice into Government and helps us gain the insight necessary to make decisions in response to their concerns.

“Islanders told us at the election that they want greater engagement with Government. This includes our older generation, in particular, and we recognise how important this Forum is. I am looking forward to the constructive impact this Forum will make and to building positive interactions with our older community in the future.”
