Information Services
The Chief Ministers Department - Information Services team is responsible for information and communications technology (ICT) across the States of Jersey. The use of ICT is so much a part of the way all departments work and deliver service, it would be hard to imagine a modern health or education service that did not use technology. Planning for the future and maintaining and supporting the systems we already use are very important parts of our work.
CMD-IS is a single States department working within the Chief Ministers Department. It has been developed by drawing together the ICT resources from across departments but the resulting group is neither heavily centralised, nor completely devolved – it is a combination that provides control of resources as well as flexible local support.
One part of CMD-IS is organised to provide this onsite support to departments, with staff physically located nearby to respond as quickly as possible. Another team is responsible for the States ICT infrastructure, including the networks, common applications such as office systems and email and the computer rooms. Under this type of structure, support work is spread across ISD with technical staff supporting both corporate and line of business applications.
A third team provides project resources to the States of Jersey including programme and project managers, developers, business analysts, etc. Projects are run under the PRINCE 2 methodology and the States has established a programme management office to support project managers and to track the many pieces of work under way at any one time.
