Keeping Jersey Safe

‘Keeping Jersey Safe’ is the aim of the Emergency Planning Unit and they now have guidance and practical advice on how to deal with an Island emergency available on the States website.

The information provides helpful instructions, making sure individuals and families are well-equipped to deal with any major emergencies that could affect the Island as well as valuable advice on how to be prepared for emergencies at home and in the car.

Major emergencies include anything from extreme weather conditions such as flooding, to serious transport accidents and chemical spillages

The pages explain Jersey’s close co-operation with the other Channel Islands and the UK in developing strategies to deal with any major emergency. This means our Island can draw on a large pool of expertise, which helps make any response as efficient and prompt as possible.  The site will remain up to date with accurate advice being added over time.

The Emergency Planning website has been put together under the supervision of Michael Long; the Emergency Planning Officer who is keen for people to visit the site. “It is important that we know what to do and how to act should a major emergency occur" he said. "The benefits of the site can be seen in the information recently posted about the recent fire at Broadlands in St Peter.  The site was regularly updated with information and many people found it extremely useful.”

Guidance and practical advice on how to deal with an emergency is available on the website in Portuguese and Polish.
