Education Appeals
The Department for Education, Sport and Culture tries to work with parents in ensuring the best educational experience possible for all children. Occasionally there will be a difference of opinion and parents will seek something other than that which the department offers. If a parent has made a reasonable request and had that request denied by the department, the parent has the right of appeal. The parent may request an appeal by stating the grounds for appeal and writing to:
The Director of Education, Sport and Culture
PO Box 142
Highlands Campus
Jersey
JE4 8QJ
If the Director feels that there are adequate grounds the hearing will be granted and an appeals panel will be convened to hear the case.
The appeals panel will consist of a senior member of the Department who has hitherto not been involved in the case, either the Minister for Education, Sport and Culture or the Assistant Minister and an independent member of high standing in the community. The decision of the appeals panel will be final and there will be no further appeal.
If the appellant feels that they have not been given a fair hearing, they may complain about the process to the Jersey Complaints Board. It is entirely up to the Complaints Board whether or not they accept the case and order a hearing or not.
