Applying for Lessons as an Existing Player
Exsisting Pupils Procedure
Instruments
It is expected that pupils who already play and who are applying for tuition with the JIS will provide their own instrument. Exceptions to this are made for bassoon and tuba players. Once accepted into the system, staff will be pleased to advise on the make and model of an instrument if one needs to be purchased.
Parents will be responsible for buying music, providing a music stand and buying instrument accessories such as reeds and strings where necessary.
Previous Teacher’s Instrumental
Report
In order to assess your child’s suitability for tuition we will request a report from your current/previous teacher.
Music Test
On receipt of a completed application form and report, your child will be invited to a musical suitability test which will include the playing of a recently prepared piece and a sight reading exercise.
Although your child may be suitable there may not be space on a teacher’s timetable to accommodate them and a decision as to whether tuition can be offered will be notified in writing.
A condition of pupils being accepted as existing players is that they must attend the most appropriate Music Centre for their stage of learning.
