Other JIS Activities
Chamber Ensembles
In addition to Music Centre activities, a programme of occasional extra curricular chamber ensembles is organised by the Instrumental Music staff. Membership of these ensembles is by teacher recommendation.
Short Courses and Workshops
From time to time the Service organises one-off workshops and masterclasses for pupils at different stages of musical development and experience, in order to enhance and extend the range of rehearsal and performance opportunities offered.
Grade 5 Theory
The Service runs lessons in preparation for the Grade 5 Theory Examinations of the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music, an essential requirement for those pupils who wish to progress to Grades 6, 7 and 8 practical examinations. These lessons take place on Saturday mornings during term time and are available only to pupils who are learning with the Instrumental Music Service.
The PwC Jersey Young Musician Competition
This competition is run by the Instrumental Service in the Spring of each year and the winners of the five heats - Strings, Woodwind, Brass, Piano and Percussion - are invited to participate in the final, which is held at the Jersey Arts Centre, to find Jersey's Young Musician of the Year.
