Taking a Gap Year
Reasons for taking a year out:
- take a break from academic study
- gain course or career skills, new language, computing qualifications, etc.
- spend some time in industry before returning to education
- save up before going to university
- contribute to a particular cause or help those less privileged
- take time to think about your future and make sure you're on the right track
Whatever the reason, students taking time out need to be clear about what they hope to achieve. This can help in convincing universities when asking for deferred entry.
Research is vital and planning needs to start early. Many organised schemes have lengthy application procedures.
