Langford Sports Centre
Langford is a state of the art dual-use sports centre managed for both the onsite colleges and community user groups. The Community use availability is between 17.30 and 22.00 for the dry side and from 16.30 until 22.00 for the swimming pool. The centre is finished to the highest specification offering the following facilities.
Sports Hall
The sports hall has high tech flooring to provide outstanding protection from impact damage to joints as well as being highly resistant to slips and slides. The green back ground eliminates glare and provides a good contrast to the line markings of the various courts. The sports that can be played here are basketball, cricket, five-a-side football, netball, badminton, volleyball, hockey and tennis. All large equipment is provided for each sport, with the emphasis on ease of use and minimal manual handling.
Swimming Pool
A 25 metre five lane swimming pool with a depth from one metre to two metres is available. This is a deck-level pool which has the latest in filtration technology ensuring that the water quality is always of the highest standard. There are male and female changing rooms fitted with cubicles throughout. Limited disabled changing facilities with easy access to the pool are also provided.
Gymnasium
This is a traditional style school gym with wall bars, balance beams and ropes. It has a fully sprung wooden floor to absorb impact and protect joints. There is also a selection of vaulting horses, spring boards and mats. For those who hold the correct qualification there are two trampolines. This area is ideal for circuit training and other exercise classes.
Dance Studio
This room is designed to meet the exacting standards of todays highly competitive leisure industry. Fully air conditioned, the temperature can be changed from very cool to very warm in 20 minutes, giving the flexibility to go from a cooled aerobics environment to a warm Pilates environment at the touch of a button. The floor is fully sprung to help protect the joints and beams are strategically placed to assist with routines. The mirrored wall is ideal to check on poise and form.
External Ball Court
At the side of the centre is an all weather ball court marked out for netball. This facility has a non-slip impact absorbing surface. The court is surrounded by a low wall and fencing, which prevents the ball from straying too far. There is bleacher style seating for 60 spectators provided along side the court, so viewing is a pleasure.
Parking
There are two car parks at Langford Sports Centre, one on the south lower side and one on the north upper side giving a total of 80 spaces. There is additional parking provided at Jersey College for Girls, with fifty extra spaces within the bus bays.
Who can book and how
Langford facilities are open to community groups in the form of clubs and organisations, which must be properly constituted and have five million pounds liability insurance against loss or damages. Copies of appropriate coaching and first aid qualifications are required. Bookings are on a permanent basis, with a minimum of ten weeks, and can be made through the supervisor for Education, Sport and Leisure facilities.
At fees you can afford
The Sports Division of the Education, Sport and Culture Department has established corporate fees for all its facilities. The divisions aim is to provide high quality sports facilities to the whole community. Financial support where appropriate is available for groups within the community.
