Channel Islands Lottery Jersey - Brief History

The Channel Islands Lottery is one of the longest running small lotteries in the world. It began in Jersey in the mid 1960s and raised many millions of pounds for the development of Fort Regent. In 1975, Jersey and Guernsey joined together to form the Channel Islands Lottery and have been successful in raising money for sport, leisure and recreation in the islands and supporting the Association of Jersey Charities. Ticket sales in Jersey represent 55 per cent of Channel Island sales, and the Jersey profit from the lottery averages £200,000 a year.

From January 2004, the familiar lottery draws were replaced by a scratch card lottery which consists of two separate scratch card games at any one time. This reflects the public desire for instant win prizes. These cash prizes now range from £1 to £20,000.

You can get more information on the lottery by calling the Gambling Controller in Jersey on 705551.

The latest annual report of the Channel Islands Lottery was presented to the States of Jersey in April 2006 by Economic Development. This report can be obtained from the States Greffe book shop at Morier House or by accessing 2005 Public Lotteries Reoprt  (2005 Public Lotteries Report 86Kb)
