Jersey Export Development Initiative
Advice on trade development to Jersey based businesses is provided through the Enterprise and Business Development team, within the Department, and information available on the Department’s web pages. The services will include:
- Advice and support to new and less experienced exporters
- Information and contacts to help identify and research overseas markets
- Links to global networks which will help identify new markets.
- Financial assistance to help develop Jersey’s export trade will also be available. An eligible company or individual will be entitled to claim support up to a maximum of £10,000 based on the following formula:
50% of the total eligible costs for the first claim
40% of the total eligible costs for the second claim
30% of the total eligible costs for the third claim
20% of the total eligible costs for the fourth claim
10% of the total eligible costs for the fifth claim
Who is eligible?
- Any Jersey registered business, whose beneficial owner is a Jersey resident.
- Any would-be-entrepreneur who has been resident in Jersey for 5 years.
Who is not eligible to claim?
- Agencies or sales representatives who act on a commission basis.
- A business or individual already receiving financial support from a States Department for any promotion or export activity.
- A business who is exporting to a subsidiary, or an organisation that the claimant has a share holding in.
- Not for profit organisations, e.g. charities
- Individuals or organisations within the financial services industry (supported via Jersey Finance Ltd).
- Businesses or individuals that are attending public shows or markets.
What you can claim?
An eligible company or individual may claim for the follow expenditure on specific export and promotional activity.
- Marketing visits. Travel costs, excluding business or first class travel.
- Trade fairs, seminars, promotional events. Costs incurred in participating in a trade fair, in-store promotion, or a private exhibition. This could include the cost of an on-island export event.
- Promotional material & web pages. The costs of translating the content of a website or marketing material into another language.
- Sales agents. The cost of finding and selecting an agent, who is a non- resident in Jersey.
- Overseas buyers. The cost of bringing one or more potential buyers (who are not residents of Jersey) to Jersey.
- Product samples. The cost of providing free samples to organisations outside Jersey. A “prototype or “mock-up” will not qualify as a sample.
- Export and trade related information, advice and guidance. The cost incurred in obtaining specialist information, advice and guidance. This could include, for example, legal or accountancy fees in setting up distributors or sales agents outside Jersey.
What you can’t claim?
- Costs that relate to after sales expenses.
- Cost in managing existing overseas clients.
- Costs that relate to product recalls or other quality assurance matters.
How to apply for a grant?
- Eligible companies or individuals must register before incurring any cost.
- Eligible companies or individuals can submit more than one application.
- Groups of would be entrepreneurs can submit joint applications.
How to claim?
Payment will be made after the activity and upon evidence of supporting information. A report that details the activity and outcomes must be submitted with every claim.
