Response

A

Speed cameras are not used in Jersey. The States of Jersey Police and Honorary police officers use speed guns (Lasertec) to corroborate excessive speed. To date in 2017, the highest recorded speed recorded in Jersey is 72mph.

B

States of Jersey Police records indicate that 112 drivers have been caught exceeding 40mph.

C

As of the 19 June, 283 drivers were recorded as travelling over the speed limit. 195 have been dealt with at a Parish hall enquiry (PHE) with 16 dealt with at the Magistrate’s court. The remainder are still awaiting to appear at court or PHE.

D

The total amount of money generated from speeding fines so far this year is £20,420. The States of Jersey Police do not receive any monies from speeding fines. Fines issued at PHEs remain with that particular parish. Fines issued in either the Magistrate or Youth Courts are forwarded to Her Majesty’s Receiver General.
