What percentage of pupils gaining five A* to C including Maths and English (Level 4 and above) gained a level 4 (C) or better in iGCSE English, in the 2017 GCSE examinations?

B
Can you also give me the English results for each secondary school for English Language at GCSE & iGCSE for 2017.

Response

A
Out of all pupils that achieved five or more A*-C including English and mathematics, 78% achieved a 4 or above in an English GCSE and 30% achieved a C or above in an English IGCSE. This includes 8% that achieved a 4/C or above in both.

Please note:

  • A pupil is considered to have passed English if they have achieved a C/4 or above in English language or English literature. In previous methodology used in Jersey the C/4 or above had to be achieved in English language.
  • Different schools can have very different intakes, so differences in attainment should not be assumed to result from differences in the quality of teaching.
  • Under certain circumstances, pupils can be disapplied from appearing in a school’s results. They are still included in the results for the island given in section A.
  • Results in reformed GCSE English Language may look low for some schools however it is important to note that this GCSE may have been taken by a subset of pupils only.
