Request

Further to numerous Freedom of Information Requests in relation to many failed Back Bench propositions by a number of current sitting Deputies. I would like to know:

A

What is the current total hourly running costs of a States Sitting when debating proposals?

B

Whenever a proposition is drafted what additional costs are incurred when a Deputy needs help to word the proposition properly and professionally?

C

How many times a proposition has been rejected before debate due to its frivolity?

Response

A

This information is not held. The running costs of States sittings are not calculated or held separately as this is a core function of the States Greffe Department. Further information about the States Greffe can be found at the following link:

About the States Greffe

B

There are no additional costs incurred when a Deputy needs help to word a proposition as again, this is part of a core function of the States Greffe Department. Please refer to the link above for further information.

C

Standing Orders 18 to 34 within Part 3 of Standing Orders of the States of Jersey detail the process of lodging a proposition, including its contents. Frivolity is not grounds by which a draft proposition can be deemed out of order. A copy of Standing Orders of the States of Jersey can be found at the link below:

Standing Orders of the States of Jersey

This response has been issued on behalf of the States Greffe. The States Greffe is responsible for the information held by (and on behalf of) both itself and the States Assembly.  Neither the States Assembly nor the States Greffe form part of the Government of Jersey and the Government was not involved either in the examination and retrieval of any information required for this response, nor in the drafting of the response itself.
