Please can you provide information on all primary schools that offer an after school club directly.
How much it costs to go, how many pupils are eligible to access the club, how many staff are needed, the cost of running the club, if the club has a fee, how is the money spent? What does each club offer and until what time.
Response
After School club has been defined, for the purposes of clarity, as an after school facility providing extended care or supervision for a group of children in return for payment.
Out of the 24 States of Jersey provided Primary schools;
- five schools run their own after school club directly on school premises
- fourteen of the schools use private companies to operate after school provision. It is therefore not possible to provide the information requested as it is deemed commercially sensitive and specific to each individual business and is therefore exempt under Article 33(b) of the Freedom of Information (Jersey) Law 2011
- the remaining five schools do not provide any after school club

After school clubs
The school-run clubs are operated on a ‘not for profit’ basis. After staff have been paid, any extra money raised through fees is re-invested in equipment and extra resources.
Exemption applied
Article 33 - Commercial interests
Information is qualified exempt information if –
(a) it constitutes a trade secret; or
(b) its disclosure would, or would be likely to, prejudice the commercial interests of a person (including the scheduled public authority holding the information).
Justification for the exemption
The information is of significant commercial value and its disclosure would, or would be likely to, prejudice the commercial interests of the third party and the scheduled public authority. Therefore we consider it would not be in the public interest to release this information.
