Request

A

How many of the 2012 £1 and £2 coins were minted and the reason why were they minted? I only ask as there is no information on the 2012 £2 coin, however it was minted.

B

Same question above for the 2012 £1 as there is a graphic on the posters saying £1 coin going out of circulation and it was a 2012 £1 which to my knowledge was not minted. If it wasn't minted why was this graphic used?

Minted figures have been provided in previous Freedom of Information requests at the links below. The provided figures are only for the Royal Mint mintage, therefore exclude the commemorative coins.

Jersey coin mintage (FOI)

Jersey coin sets (FOI)

In 2012, the Royal Mint minted 20,000 coins: 10,000 £1 denomination and 10,000 £2 denominations. For each denomination 5,000 coins were dated 2012 and 5,000 coins were dated 2006. These were part of a larger order for a European coin collection supplier which was a re-order from a previous request in 2006. The rationale behind backdating to 2006 was to replenish the collection suppliers’ previous order of that year, selected to celebrate the Queen’s 80th birthday.

B

The graphic used on the poster reflected circulation coins minted by the Royal Mint in 2012, as explained above.
