Data on the number of children and young people diagnosed each year is not held in an accessible format. In order to fully answer this question, each record would need to be accessed in order to determine the date of diagnoses. Therefore, Article 16 of the Freedom of Information (Jersey) Law 2011 has been applied.
However as a guide, there are currently 147 young people on the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) ADHD centre of care.
The category for diagnosis is related to ICD10 and DSM IV guidelines and not related to a behavioural presentation. The ADHD assessment process triangulates information from school, home, and child’s development to establish the presence of the neurodevelopmental disorder.

children who move to Jersey with a diagnosis in place
young people who go off island
young people who have been given a diagnosis, but are no longer open to CAMHS
children who are under five and may have a global presentation that may include ADHD

Of the 147 young people held on the CAMHS ADHD Pathway, 108 young people are prescribed medication within the ADHD Clinic. This medication may or may not be for ADHD. Other possibilities are sleep problems or anxiety and mood in combination with an ADHD diagnosis. This is likely to be a small percentage.
Our ADHD pathway follows National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) guidelines which indicates that behavioural management by parents and school is the first line of intervention. This is accessed via the Bridge or triple P via family support workers.
The Health and Social Services Department is unable to provide the detail of the specific medication prescribed as, in order to do this, each record would need to be accessed. Therefore, Article 16 of the Freedom of Information (Jersey) Law 2011 has been applied.

(1) A scheduled public authority that has been requested to supply information may refuse to supply the information if it estimates that the cost of doing so would exceed an amount determined in the manner prescribed by Regulations.
Regulation 2 (1) of the Freedom of Information (Costs) (Jersey) Regulations 2014 allows an authority to refuse a request for information where the estimated cost of dealing with the request would exceed the specified amount of the cost limit of £500. This is the estimated cost of one person spending 12.5 working hours in determining whether the department holds the information, locating, retrieving and extracting the information.
