Request

Can you provide any information concerning the grounding of a British registered yacht. I understand it grounded on Barneville Plage on the evening of the 24 April at approximately high water. With assistance from the Directeur du Port at Carteret, the SNSM and Carteret Lifeboat, the sailing yacht was eventually refloated on Saturday 2 May and has returned to the UK.

A.

Do you have any log record of any contact made from the vessel between the dates mentioned?

B.

If so, are you able to identify the nature and time of that contact eg phone calls, DSC Pan Pan, Mayday or routine safety traffic.

C.

Did Jersey Coastguard log the incident or provide any assistance to the French marine authorities?

Response

A.

Yes we do, Jersey Coastguard logs all relevant communications with ships and records all voice (radio and telephone) communications received on distress and routine working channels.

B.

The initial contact was received by Jersey Coastguard from CROSS Jobourg at (all times local) 10.51 on 24/4/15 stating that the vessel was on the beach at Carteret.

C.

The incident and communications were logged. Assistance was provided to the French authorities in ensuring the skipper of the vessel maintained communications with the French so as to effect the safe recovery of the vessel when tides allowed and to ensure the immediate safety of the skipper.
