Please could you explain how the different items get recycled at La Collette.

I have heard rumours about certain materials being placed in landfill rather than being recycled.
It would be useful to know how everything gets recycled especially as many households on the Island try hard to recycle on a regular basis.

What happens to my recycling?
There is also a green waste composting process on the La Collette site. Commercial and household green waste is delivered to this site. The green waste is then shredded and windrow composted into a soil improver which is then returned to the land as a useful bio solid.

It should be noted that there is no “landfill” on Jersey. There is an inert waste land reclamation site at La Collette which accepts inert soils, rubble and materials from building developments.
There is an aggregate recycler on the La Collette site which extracts the useful materials from this inert waste and processes it into products for the building and civil engineering industry.
There are also some engineered waste cells in which inert waste classed as hazardous (eg asbestos) is disposed of. These cells are sealed and above the tide line and will eventually form the landscaped headland on the La Collette site.
