Request

I am writing to enquire about the following in Jersey:

A

The number of speed cameras currently in the area.

B

The number of car accidents over the previous 10 years that are not due to animals, cycling or drinking.

C

The number of car accidents over the previous 10 years that are due to animals.

D

The number of car accidents over the previous 10 years that are due to cyclists.

E

The number of car accidents over the previous 10 years that are due to drink driving or alcohol consumption.

F

If possible, the number of roadkill over the previous ten years.

Response

A

There are no fixed or mobile speed cameras in Jersey. Speeding offences are enforced by the States of Jersey police and the Honorary police of each parish by the use of hand held speed detection devices.

B to E

Jersey police do not separately record Road Traffic Collisions (RTC’s) that involve animals or cyclists. The tables below are the categories recorded.

The term ‘Hit and Run’ relates to an accident where the driver fails to stop and report the accident. It usually involves hitting another vehicle or property but would include hitting an animal or pedestrian.

The term DIC indicates that alcohol was involved (drunk in charge)

F

As in the UK, motorists in Jersey are only obliged to report accidents involving certain animals. (Horse, cattle, ass, mule, sheep, pig, dog, goat). This is defined in the Road traffic (Jersey) Law 1956.

Accidents involving other animals or birds are not reportable. The information requested is not held.
