In the UK when a patient’s operation is cancelled by the hospital at the last minute for nonclinical reasons, the hospital should offer another date within a maximum of 28 days or fund the patient’s treatment at the time and hospital of their choice.

Does Jersey operate the same policy? If so how many patients were treated within the pledged time?

Response

No cancellations were due to a lack of hospital beds.

A.

23 operations were cancelled for nonclinical reasons from 1 January 2015 to 31 March 2015.

B.

23 operations were cancelled for nonclinical reasons from 1 January 2014 to 31 March 2014.

C.

21 operations were cancelled for nonclinical reasons from1 January 2013 to 31 March 2013.

D.

Bed occupancy figures inclusive of: Maternity, Paediatrics, Intensive Care Unit, surgical beds and medical beds.

The occupancy levels at the hospital from 1 January 2015 to 31 March 2015: total beds occupied equals 70% or 12460 beds
