A.

Has any research been conducted into the implications of the location of the new police station with regards to negotiating the tunnel during peak traffic times in the event of an emergency?

B.

If so what were the findings?

Response

A.

We can confirm that during the consideration of the planning application, the States of Jersey Police advised that they have around 100 deployments annually from the existing police station at Rouge Bouillon.

These are normally specialist vehicles to support other units already attending incidents. It is anticipated that there will be the same number from the new police station.

The police (along with the ambulance service), deploy vehicles on patrol at various locations around the island at any one time and it is these vehicles that are directed in the first instance to incidents that arise.

Not all incidents are located in the west of the island which would involve access through the tunnel.

B.

The planning application under P/2012/1005 was accompanied by a transport assessment which includes details of the perceived vehicle movements to and from the site and this is available below.

Planning Application

The issue of traffic generation and its impact was also covered in the planning agents letter to the department on 8 October 2012, the department’s report to the Ministerial meeting on 19 April 2013 and the subsequent minutes of that meeting.

All of which are also available on the website above.
