Request

The year-long trial closure of Chasse Brunet should now have concluded.

Please can you tell me:

A

Who has been consulted as to the success (or otherwise) of the closure?

B

When will nearby, affected residents be given the opportunity to voice their opinion of the closure?

C

What the criterion for any permanent closure are?

D

How the closure will be re-evaluated in light of the recent survey speed limits in St Saviour?

E

How quickly will the road be re-opened to through traffic?

Response

A

Chasse Brunet is on school walking routes to both Grainville and St Saviour’s Schools and, as part of the Safer Routes to Schools initiative, a number of options were widely consulted on at a local community consultation held at St Saviour’s School and via the parish Hall and gov.je website.

The community’s preferred option to close Chasse Brunet was adopted as a trial measure.

Surveys undertaken before and eight months into the closure show that pedestrian usage has increased, potentially reducing vehicular journeys and contributing to active and healthy lifestyles.

B

Residents can make comments to Growth, Housing and Environment directly and to the Parish of St Saviour (highway authority for Chasse Brunet) regarding their thoughts on the implemented scheme.

C

The success criteria is achieving the creation of a safer route to school. This contributes to encouraging greater numbers of young people walking to the local schools rather than being driven in cars and contributing to congestion. The trial has indicated this criteria has been met.

D

Chasse Brunet is already a 20mph road and a review of the speed limit is not proposed. The current parish speed limit review will have no impact on the closure.

E

The Parish of St Saviour, as highway authority, have agreed to make the scheme permanent, based on the benefits achieved by the scheme. No further community consultation is planned.
