With reference to human waste pump stations:

A

How many pumping stations are on the Island?

B

I would like a map showing their locations.

C

How often are the stations inspected to ensure they comply with the relevant laws on the Island eg lighting laws / water laws?

For clarity I am referring to the Water (Jersey) law 1972 (and amendments) and with respect to the lighting; are any lights or other electrical equipment kept up to date in line with any relevant laws?

D

I would like a copy of the relevant certificates stating they comply.

Response

A

The Department is responsible for 103 foul water pumping stations

B

The map of all the pumping station sites is available to view at the main drainage offices at Beresford House, Bellozanne Road, Bellozanne, St. Helier. JE2 3JX.

C

All electrical equipment, ie pumps, panels, heaters, lighting circuits and so on are inspected on a five yearly cycle according to the Safeguarding of Workers Electricity at Work (Jersey) regulations 1983.

Our staff also work to the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET BS7671) regulations. Should faults occur with any lighting units between the inspections then they are updated to LED lighting units.

The Water (Jersey) law 1972 (& amendments) is not a relevant law for waste water. The law that applies is the Drainage (Jersey) Law 2005 (and amendments). A copy can be viewed at the following link:

Drainage (Jersey) Law 2005

D

There are no certificates as such, but there are inspection and testing reports, completed by the technician that carries out the inspection. These can be made available if required.

The following exemption would apply to the personal information contained on any released certificates:
