I would like to know how much was spent on the police officer's overtime on the abuse case at Haut de la Garrene, and why was there need to pay overtime as there was no hurry?
The police overtime costs for Operation Rectangle (historic abuse inquiry) were as follows:
2008
£777,543
2009
£43,494
2010
£6,915
Operation Rectangle began in 2007, some months before the focus was on Haut de la Garrene. The enquiry centred on Haut de la Garrene became public in February 2008. A high proportion of the costs between February and July 2008 (£701,165) relate to the 24 hour security cordon around the building that was in place for six months. This could not be covered by officers on normal duties as it would have reduced our capability to police the Island.
