I would like to know:

A.

The reasons and justifications for the recent change of street lights on Saint Clements Coast Road (La Grande Route de la Cote) including:

B.

The justifications for the change to the new LED lighting;

C.

Who supplied and installed it and;

D.

The reasons for moving to the stark white lighting as opposed to a softer lighting.

Response

A.

The replacement of street lights on St. Clements coast road form part of TTS policy to maintain/ improve main road street lighting and reduce running / repair costs. The existing lighting is near to the end of its service life and spare parts are becoming more difficult to acquire. Therefore replacement with new equipment is unavoidable in order to maintain adequate lighting.

B.

The LED lights, which are dimmed by one lighting class between midnight and 6am, use less energy than the old high pressure sodium bulbs and do not require any significant maintenance over their expected 20+ years working life.

C.

The equipment was supplied by Urbis Schreder and is being installed by local electrical contractors.

D.

The new equipment produces light with a higher colour rendering index which makes identification of objects and colours easier at night. This contributes to improving road safety. The old lighting made these visual tasks more difficult.
