Who we are and what we do

Jersey Flag

Although part of the Chief Minister's Department, the Statistics Unit has complete operational independence in producing and publishing official statistics. We are the central statistical office for the States of Jersey.

Some of our main responsibilities include:

  • providing a statistical service to the public, politicians, States' departments and businesses
  • carrying out regular statistical surveys and producing key information on Jersey's economy (such as population and census; inflation; house prices; and retail sales)
  • producing a range of social statistics, for example: household spending and income, and the Jersey Annual Social Survey (information about social issues such as health and lifestyle; crime; and pensions)
  • advising and assisting other States' departments on survey design and analysis, so that they may carry out their own surveys
  • running independent surveys on behalf of other States' departments on request
