Housing Needs Survey

The Statistics Unit carried out a Housing Needs Survey (HNS) in late 2007.

The Housing Needs Survey (HNS) was commissioned by the Planning and Environment and Housing Departments. The survey was previously conducted in 2004.

What is the purpose of the Housing Needs Survey?

The 2007 survey was carried out to collect up-to-date information on private households’ future housing needs and aspirations. It provides detailed estimates of Jersey’s potential housing requirements for the period 2008 to 2012 and identifies the number and type of dwellings needed in all sectors of the Island’s housing market. The 2007 survey included new areas specifically focussing on first-time buyers and older persons’ housing.

With a response rate of 56%, the results of the survey are accurate and representative and play an important role in the Island plan review process.
