Sister | The Accident & Emergency Department is located in the 1960's Wing of the General Hospital and is accessed via the A&E entrance in the The Parade. What we do: There is only one Emergency Department in Jersey. As such we must be able to receive, and manage effectively, patients with a wide range of acute illnesses and injuries. The spectrum extends from the resuscitation of a small child who has sustained a cardiac arrest, the chemical unblocking of the blocked coronary artery of a patient having a heart attack, to an uncomplicated sprained ankle. In addition, the department fulfils a number of other less obvious vital functions: - A central role in the management of a major incident
- The provision of decontamination facilities for patients arriving at hospital that have been contaminated with chemical, radiological, or biological material
- Internal education of junior medical and nursing staff.
- Major involvement in Advanced Life Support, Advanced Paediatric Life Support, Advanced Trauma Life Support, and Major Incident Medical Management and Support Courses.
- A place of safety for patients who might have mental health problems.
- A safety net for the health care needs of the most vulnerable members of society
- Clinical expertise in long term soft tissue and sports injuries
The Emergency Department strives to provide the people of Jersey with emergency healthcare of the highest quality.
