What we do: Diabetes

We provide a comprehensive, modern patient-centred service within a system of care shared with the Island's General Practitioners

• Consultant & Nurse led clinics in General, Adolescent and Paediatric Diabetes

• Nurse-led group/individual Diabetes & Health Promotion education sessions

• Dietetic education & review

• Consultant-led clinics for Diabetic foot problems plus specialist Podiatry education, review & treatment services

• Dedicated services for Portuguese-speaking patients, supported by our Portuguese Diabetes Nurse

• Specialist support for Insulin Pump therapy, Continuous Glucose Sensing & advanced Insulin management

• A Hospital liaison service for inpatients with Diabetes

• Advice during working hours regarding any Diabetes-related problem, available to all Jersey patients and health professionals

• A Consultant-led island-wide digital retinal photography programme

• A comprehensive island-wide testing programme for early detection of Diabetes

• A secure computer register holding information on all patients with Diabetes on the Island

We liaise closely with renal, ophthalmology, orthotic, surgical and vascular services in Jersey as well as visiting specialist vascular services from Bournemouth

What we do: Endocrinology

We treat a full spectrum of Endocrine disorders in a dedicated Endocrine clinic supported by an Endocrine Nurse, including the following specialist services:

• Hirsutism

• Hormone implants

• Growth hormone replacement therapy

• Thyroid and other endocrine malignancies

Investigations or treatment requiring more specialised facilities are arranged in liaison with Professor Grossman of St Bartholomew’s Hospital in London or Dr Sandeman in Southampton

What we do: Metabolic Medicine

We treat a full spectrum of General Medical & Metabolic disorders including:

• Hypertension (high blood pressure)

• Dyslipidaemia (cholesterol problems)

• Severe obesity

• Metabolic bone disease

• Thyroid and other endocrine malignancies

Specialist surgery for severe obesity (gastric bypass or gastric banding) is arranged in selected cases in liaison with Mr Fiennes of St Anthonys Hospital in London.
