The department provides the following; - General Gynaecology - this includes all gynaecological conditions from childhood to old age.
- Oncology - Mr J B. Day and his team of nursing staff coordinate this service which has direct links to the Royal Marsden Hospital, London. Care plans are individualised and discussed at regular multidisciplinary meetings.
- The Colposcopy Clinic is led by Mr Day to provide diagnostic treatment for women who are referred with abnormal cervical smears. Mr Day also leads in laparoscopic surgery and is a national and international Preceptor in this field.
- Urogynaecology - We have a modern urodynamic service located at Overdale hospital and our own Urotherapy who works closely with the three consultants who provide the most up to date treatments.
- Infertility. Mr N MacLachlan leads the infertility service with a link to Bourn Hall, Cambridge. Microscopic tubal surgery is available. A sperm and egg donor programme is available. The Assisted Reproduction carries out around 100 cycles a year.
- The sexual health service, including the termination of pregnancy service, is led by Dr. F Nelson. Closer links are being forged with the genito-urinary medicine department which is led by Dr I Muscat.
- A psychosexual medicine service is being developed by Dr F Nelson.
- The unit has its own Early Pregnancy problem unit which runs daily.
Obstetrics The service provides maternity care for the island and in 2004 had the lowest perinatal mortality rates in Europe. There are around 1000 deliveries a year.
