Location:
We are situated in the John Taylor Oncology Suite, which is adjacent to the Outpatient Department of the General Hospital. The Oncology Suite was opened in 1995 and refurbished in 2002.

What we do:
We provide a cancer service in Jersey and we are part of the Central and South Coast Cancer Network.
We deliver chemotherapy in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere, whilst also providing information and advice.
Our aim is to provide a very high quality oncology patient care with best practise, safety and governance standards by multidisciplinary team work.

Administration of outpatient chemotherapy.
Information on radiotherapy at U.K. hospitals.
Best supportive care.

Specialist Clinics:
Chemotherapy clinics (Dr. T. Geldart).
Radiotherapy/Oncology Clinics (Dr. C. R. Hamilton).
Haematology/Oncology Clinics (Dr. C. Mattock).
Gynaecology/Oncology Clinic (Mr. J. B. Day/Dr. S. Hima)
Nurse-led supportive clinics.

Education: Of colleagues, patients and relatives.

Information:
BACUP booklets on most cancers.
Drug information fact sheets.
Patient-held cytotoxic chemotherapy record books.
Package for information on some U.K. hospitals.
Advice from relevant supportive agencies.
Hair loss/wigs.
Videos.

Out of Hours Guidelines:
The department provides an on-call service to our patients who are recieving chemotherapy/
Patients are encouraged to contact the on-call service to ascertain the following:

  • The probability of neutropenia, with or without a raised temperature.
  • Shivers, or a temperature of 38º or higher on one occasion or more.
  • A temperature of 37.5º on two or more occasions, more than two hours apart.
  • Symptoms suspicious of infection.

If deemed necessary, the on-call nurse will then contact the medical team on-call to request assessment, and if appropriate, admission and treatment.
