WHAT WE DO
Paediatrics
The work of the team is based at the General Hospital, where it provides comprehensive general and neonatal paediatric medical care. The service is administered by the Consultant Paediatricians.
Robin Ward:
The general children’s ward - Robin Ward - is in the General Hospital. It has approximately fifteen beds divided equally into medical and surgical space. The team looks after all medical in-patients and provides a consultation service for other ill children at all times.
Robin Ward is a fun and lively place and we encourage family involvement, so parents, siblings and friends all visit. We have facilities to enable a parent/carer to stay at night time too. We have a fabulous, well equipped playroom for younger children and a computer room for teenagers.
This is the ward that cares for all children who need to stay in hospital in Jersey and has approximately 1,600 admissions each year. A further 1,600 children are treated on the ward as out-patients.
The ward is located on the 2nd floor of the hospital building. Access can be gained via the lifts in the hospital entrance in The Parade.
Outpatients Clinics:
There are regular paediatric outpatient clinics held in the Gwyneth Huelin wing in general and sub-speciality paediatrics. The sub-speciality clinics are conducted in association with visiting specialists in paediatric cardiology, respiratory medicine (including Cystic Fibrosis), neurology and gastroenterology.
Neonatal (Newborn) Services:
The Neonatal Unit/Special Care Nursery has two intensive care cots with ventilation and invasive monitoring available. Space for a further six incubators is also available, but this number may be exceeded. If an infant requires transport to the UK for very specialised intensive care we provide the initial stabilisation and air transport.
Child Development Centre:
A multi disciplinary Child Development Centre operates under the coordinating leadership of Dr. Malpas at the Overdale site.
