Chevalier Ward

When admitted to the ward you will be allocated a named trained nurse who will be caring for you throughout your stay.

Here is some advice to help you during your short stay and subsequent discharge.

  • Please arrive promptly for you admission. Failure to do so might lose you your bed and consequent surgery.
  • Do not bring valuable belongings e.g. large amounts of money or jewellery into hospital.
  • Bring personal toiletries and be prepared for at least an overnight stay.
  • Bring with you the name of your nearest relative or friend and their telephone number to help complete our records.
  • Bring at least 24hrs supply of your usual medicine and the name of same.
  • Take your usual medication on the morning of surgery, unless advised otherwise, by your pre-admission nurse.
  • Please ask your admitting nurse any questions you have relating to your admission, surgery or discharge.
  • Advise family/friends to keep enquiry telephone calls to a minimum - time is better spent looking after you rather than on the telephone.

After Your Discharge

An outpatient appointment will be either given to you on discharge or requested by us and sent to you after your discharge.

If dressing renewal/reduction or removal of sutures/clips is required, your allocated nurse will arrange for a District Nurse to perform this at your home or, on occasions, you may be asked to return to the Ward or somewhere else in the hospital.

Should physiotherapy be needed post-discharge, this will be organised for you, prior to your discharge.

If any other investigations will be required after your departure, you will be advised of the procedure beforehand or it will be forwarded to you.

PLEASE return any loaned equipment especially crutches, sticks, dark glasses, as our ward budget is under some strain due to the constant need to replace such items.

If you need any additional medication (i.e. new drugs started in hospital, such as antibiotics or pain killers), your nurse will arrange this and let you know when they will be available - these sometimes take several hours to prepare as our Pharmacy is under constant pressure.

Regarding transport home - please arrange this yourself. Hospital transport may be arranged if there is no alternative.

Notes

A Non-smoking policy exists throughout the hospital.

Visiting hours are 4:00pm - 8:00pm.

There are daily trolley visits with newspapers and sundries.

The Hospital Chapel is located on the 2nd floor, and is open 24hrs a day, 7 days a week.
