Overview

The service aims to provide assessment, diagnosis and treatment for Jersey residents below the age of 16, (or 18 for those in full time education). This involves working with young people who have significant emotional, behavioural, interpersonal and developmental difficulties, including the full range of psychiatric illness and their families/ carers. The service aims to maintain children and adolescents in their family unit wherever possible.

Common presenting difficulties would include depression, anxiety, obsessive compulsive disorder, post traumatic stress disorder, adjustment reaction, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity disorder, Autistic Spectrum Disorder, Tic disorders, Eating Disorders and early onset psychosis.

The therapeutic team consists of:-

· Nurse Therapists
· Psychiatrist
· Psychologist
· Social Worker
· Administration staff

The team uses a variety of interventions including behavioural, cognitive behavioural therapy, systemic therapy, creative play and medication, while working with the individual child, their family or wider network. Group work and consultation are also offered.

We provide support and consultation to other services within health, social services, the education department and other agencies in relation to children and their families. This may include running training courses, being involved in case conferences or giving professional advice.

How to Access the Service

The team receives referrals from professional working with children and adolescents, particularly General Practitioners. The referral is considered by the team who will then offer an initial assessment or suggest a more appropriate service. An initial assessment allows the team to gather more information and assess the concerns so that a plan of therapeutic intervention can be developed. This maybe within CAMHS or with other services.

The majority of children and their families are seen at Royde House; however other venues within the community (e.g. schools, children’s homes, and the hospital) are also used.
