The Mental Health Directorate provides a coordinated approach to mental health care to the people of Jersey. The directorate consists of five services which include:
Adult Mental Health (16 – 65 years)
Older Age Psychiatry (for adults over the above of 65 years)
Child and Adolescent Mental Health (for younger people still in full time education)
Psychological Assessment and Therapy Service
Alcohol and Drug Service.
The aim of the Mental Health Directorate is to reduce ill health and death by mental illness through evidenced based practice, to promote good mental health, reduce stigma and assist understanding of mental health issues.
The directorate provides a number of services ranging from the giving of information, one off appointments, outpatient treatment, short stay inpatient care, continuing care and supported community living.
The workforce includes input from a number of different professions, such as psychiatrist, nurses, psychologists, occupational therapist, social workers, health care support workers and ancillary staff such as domestics, porters, kitchen staff etc.
Providing a specialist service to a small island population means it is important we have good links with specialist mental health organisations, these include the National Mental Health Partnership and the National Institute for Mental Health in England.
