What we do:

It is the aim of the Children’s Service to provide services that promote, safeguard and improve the well being of all children and their families in Jersey. We endeavour to ensure that services provided are easily accessed, equitable, based on people’s assessed needs, and delivered in an appropriate and timely way so as to maximise their effectiveness. A multidisciplinary approach, that utilises the expertise of a range of individuals and agencies, is used to achieve these aims.

Referrals are taken from a range of agencies involved with children and families, and from members of the public who have concerns regarding the physical, emotional and developmental needs of a child or children.

A referral can be made by ringing the above number and asking for the Duty Officer or by calling into the office in person between 8.30am to 5pm Monday to Thursday and 8.30am to 4.30pm on Friday. If a service is required outside of these times, we provide an ‘emergency only’ duty system that can be contacted via the Police on +44 (0) 1534 612612. The Police will contact the Duty Officer who will then ring you back.

What Services are provided in this section:

The Children's Service is split into several different specialist teams, each providing a specific service:

Assessment & Child Protection Team - deals with all initial referrals and requests for advice and support. The team also works with the States of Jersey Police - Family Protection Team to ensure that all children are protected from any form of abuse or neglect.

Child Care Team - works with over 300 local children, and their families, to support them in reaching a reasonable standard of health and development.

Home Finding Team - recruit, assess and support Foster Carers and prospective Adopters. Provide placements for children who have to come into care because they cannot live with their own parents.

Residential Services - provide similar placements for children in residential units.

Family Centre / Family Support Services - provide a range of support services to children in need and their families. This can be through support with parenting issues, domestic arrangements in the home, mother and baby sessions, or supporting families to work through any specific issues that are adversely affecting the child.
