Medical Secretaries
LEAD OFFICER:
Jane Hall Manager, Medical Secretariat
Tel: 00 44 (0) 1534 622160
LOCATION:
Administrative Offices, General Hospital and 1st and 2nd Floor, Peter Crill House.
WHAT WE DO:
- This Department consists of approximately 50 medical secretaries.
We provide confidential secretarial and administrative support to the Hospital Consultants and their teams to help provide a seamless cohesive service. We are relied upon to communicate between the General Practitioners and hospital doctors, and also, we are in contact with patients regularly when assistance is required.
WHAT SERVICES ARE PROVIDED:
- Specialised training is required to be a medical secretary.
Apart from the usual secretarial skills, we are required to have knowledge of all aspects of medical terminology and the anatomy. A medical secretary is expected to be able to work for all specialities within the hospital and therefore the training offered, with a recognised qualification, is very important.
An example of a medical terminology training course is shown online on http://64.78.42.182/free-ed/HealthCare/medterm-v02.asp
