School buses on Connex website
Decision to cancel schools or delay opening
If weather conditions deteriorate overnight - the night before school - schools may be closed. The Director for Education will make a decision at 6am. However, if conditions are forecast to improve, the decision may be delayed until 8am.
If a decision is made to delay the opening of schools rather than close them, schools will open at 10.30am. If this happens, school buses will be rescheduled.
If it's not feasible for schools to open by 10.30am, they will remain closed for the day.
Decision to close schools while in session
If weather conditions are forecast to deteriorate during the day - while schools are in session - the school bus service may run earlier. Connex will make a decision by 11.30am and buses will aim to collect children by 1.30pm (or before if the situation demands it).
If school buses collect children by 1.30pm, then schools will be closed before this time. The Director or Assistant Director of Education will close schools.
As soon as a decision has been made, schools will be told by email and phone.
Pre-agreed transport / collection arrangements between parents and schools
Schools will contact you each autumn term to confirm what you would like your child to do if they close early. If school buses are cancelled, the school will follow your pre-agreed plan. A record of your wishes are kept by the school, and you should have chosen for your child to do one of the following:
- remain at school until collected
- make his or her own way home*
- walk to a pre-agreed location (eg your workplace)*
*only when appropriate - depending on age and distance to agreed location.
If you don't drive or are unable to walk to your child's school, you should have an agreed plan in place with the school.
