Relations

This information explains what the Immigration Directions say about relations (other than spouses and children under 18) coming to Jersey to join someone settled here. While it is only a guide, the information aims to answer the questions which are most likely to arise.

If you need more information about an immigration matter please contact us at theĀ Customs & Immigration ServiceĀ

When you contact us please provide the following:

  • your relations name (as in their passport);

  • your relations date of birth;

  • your relations nationality;

  • your relations Home Office reference number (if they have one).

What relations can I bring to Jersey ?

The Directions allow for the admission of widowed mothers, fathers, grandmothers and grandfathers aged 65 or over and parents or grandparents travelling together of whom at least one is 65 or over and, in certain circumstances, sons, daughters, sisters, brothers, uncles and aunts over the age of 18 and also parents and grandparents under 65.

How do they qualify to come to Jersey ?

You must be present and settled in Jersey (settled means living here lawfully with no time limit on your stay) and it must be shown that:

  • they are wholly or mainly financially dependent on you;

  • they are without other close relations to turn to in their own country for financial support;

  • you have sufficient funds to support and accommodate them without recourse to public funds.

Sons and daughters over 18, sisters, brothers, aunts, uncles and other parents and grandparents may come if they meet the requirements set out above ; and they live alone in the most exceptional compassionate circumstances.

They must obtain prior entry clearance before travelling to Jersey.
