What is a returning resident ?
A returning resident is someone who has settled status in Jersey but, having travelled abroad, requires re-admission as a resident.
Settled means living in Jersey lawfully with no time limit on your stay.
How do I qualify ?
If you were settled in Jersey when you last left, have not been away for more than two years and you are returning for settlement you may return as a resident. This does not apply if you received public funds to meet the cost of leaving the Island.
If you have been away for longer than two years you may still qualify to return to Jersey as a resident if for example you have strong family ties here or have lived here most of your life.
If you have been away for more than two years you are advised to apply for entry clearance at the nearest British Diplomatic Post.
If you are travelling on a new passport which does not contain a stamp confirming that you are a permanent resident in Jersey, you are advised to take with you your old passport or other evidence that you were previously resident here.
