How do I qualify to come to Jersey to study ?
You must show that you have been accepted for a course of study at:
-
a publicly funded institution of further or higher education or
-
a bona fide private education institution or
-
an independent fee paying school and
that you are following either:
-
a recognised full-time degree course or
-
a weekday course involving a minimum of 15 hours of organised daytime study per week or

a full time course of study at an independent fee paying school
You must also
-
be able to meet the cost of your course and maintain and accommodate yourself and any dependants without working or recourse to public funds and
-
intend to leave the United Kingdom on completion of your studies.
Can I extend my stay as a student ?
If you have already been studying here you can apply for an extension of stay for further studies.
If you did not enter Jersey as a student you may apply to stay for studies provided you are a non-visa national.
If you are a visa national you cannot stay on as a student unless you entered the United Kingdom with a student or prospective student visa.
Am I allowed to work ?
You may apply to the Immigration Office to obtain permission to take part-time employment or vacation employment.
You will normally only be given permission to work for up to 20 hours per week in term time, although you may be allowed to work full-time during the vacation period. The Immigration Office will also need to be satisfied that no resident labour will be displaced.
May I bring my spouse and children with me ?
Your spouse and any of your children under 18 may accompany you during your studies provided you can maintain and accommodate them adequately without recourse to public funds.
Is my spouse allowed to work ?
Your spouse will not be allowed to work unless he or she is being given leave to enter or remain in the United Kingdom for 12 months or more
Can I come to Jersey to arrange my studies ?
You may come to Jersey as a prospective student for a maximum of six months.
You will need to show that:
-
you intend to enrol on a course of study within six months of your arrival and
-
you can meet the cost of your intended course and maintain and accommodate yourself and dependants without working or recourse to public funds and
-
you intend to leave the United Kingdom on completion of your studies or when your permission to stay expires if you are not able to qualify or stay in the United Kingdom as a student.
If you are a visa national you will have to apply for a prospective student visa before you travel.
