Visitors

This information explains what the Immigration Directions say about visitors. While it is only a guide, it aims to answer the questions which are most likely to arise.

When you contact us please provide the following:

  • your name (as in your passport);

  • your date of birth;

  • your nationality; and

  • your Home Office reference number (if you have one).

How do I qualify to come to Jersey as a visitor ?

You must be able to show that:

  • you are seeking entry as a visitor for no more than 6 months;

  • you intend to leave Jersey on completion of you visit;

  • you have sufficient funds to maintain and accommodate yourself without working or recourse to public funds.

Remember that if you are a visa national you will require a visa to enter Jersey

Can I extend my stay as a visitor ?

The maximum time allowed as a visitor is 6 months. If you were given permission to stay for less than 6 months on entry you can apply to extend your stay up to a maximum of 6 months in total.

How do I apply for an extension to my stay?

You may apply in person to the Customs & Immigration Service

Your application should be made before the date your permission to stay expires. Your application should be accompanied by:

  • your passport;

  • evidence that you have sufficient funds to maintain and accommodate yourself (such as your bank statements or savings account book);

  • a letter stating how long you wish to stay and for what purpose;

All documents should be originals

Can I transact business as a visitor ?

You are free to transact business in Jersey either as a tourist or in connection with your employment or business overseas.

You may not:

  • take paid or unpaid employment for someone else or on your own account;

  • produce goods or provide services in Jersey;

  • sell goods or services to members of the public;

You may:

  • attend meetings with Jersey businesses or negotiate and enter into contracts with them;

  • attend trade fairs, conferences and classroom training.

You may also enter as a visitor if you are a sports person or entertainer coming to Jersey for a trial or audition and for a personal appearance which does not involve a performance.

The maximum allowed as a visitor is 6 months. Frequent business visitors can apply for a multiple-entry visa as a visitor valid for two years.

How do I qualify to come to Jersey for private medical treatment ?

Overseas nationals may qualify for entry to Jersey for private medical treatment. All enquiries should be made to theĀ CustomsĀ & Immigration Service.
