Nationality

Naturalisation

Applying to become a British citizen is a serious decision about a part of your life - your nationality. In order to qualify for naturalisation, you must satisfy various naturalisation criteria.

In order to ensure that your decision is treated with the care it deserves, we will make proper enquiries with you and aim to give you a decision on your application within six months of receiving your completed application form.

In order to meet this deadline we will ask you to provide certain documentation to be presented at interview. Prompt action on your part will help us to achieve our targets.
Naturalisation is a discretionary matter dealt with in the Bailiwick of Jersey by His Excellency the Lieutenant-Governor.

In the unlikely event that your application is not successful, the Nationality Section undertakes to inform you of the reasons.

When your application is being processed, you will have been assigned an officer for your case. Should you have any queries, you should in the first instance contact that officer.

For further information, an application form and guidance, please contact the Passport Office on 448000.
